Wren packed up her things and was out in the driveway, waiting for Kaiah to stop hugging her and crying. “You two about ready to stop your crying so Wren and I can hit the road?” Gray asked. He chuckled at his own statement and pulled Kaiah in for a quick hug. “Be back as soon as I can. You know what to do if anyone comes around who shouldn’t be here, right?” Wren felt bad that she was pulling Gray away from Kaiah, but her friend was as tough as they came, and she was sure that Kaiah could hold down the fort while he was gone.

“Yep,” Kaiah agreed. “See you soon,” she whispered to her husband, gently kissing his lips. Seeing the two of them together made Wren long for something like what they had. She just hoped like hell that Kaiah was right, and that Nix and Husk would want that with her.

“Ready?” Gray asked.

“As I’ll ever be,” she agreed. He grabbed her bags and tossed them into the back of his SUV. “Is your plane close?” she asked.

“Just a few miles up the road. I have a private hanger. It comes in handy when the weather starts to turn up here and planes and pilots are a bit harder to find. You never know when you’re going to need to get to the lower forty-eight, so I got my own plane.”

“That’s cool,” Wren said. She didn’t feel much like talking right now. All she could think about was getting home before the guys so that she’d be able to talk to Trace about everything. She needed to tell him that she was tired of being made to feel like an outsider and get him to help her with Rios and their father. It was the only way she’d find her way forward with them.

“Would you mind if I take a little nap once we take off?” she asked.

“Sure,” he agreed. “You feeling okay?” Gray asked.

“Yeah, just wiped out,” she admitted. She was planning on closing her eyes and pretending to sleep while she figured out how to work things out with all of the men in her life. If she had to fake nap to think things through, so be it.

“It should be a pretty smooth ride,” he promised. “Weather looks good all the way down to New Orleans.”

“That’s good because I’m betting that I won’t be a good flyer,” she admitted.

“You’ve never flown anywhere before?” he asked.

“Nope,” she said. There were a lot of things that she had never done before this little road trip, but she wasn’t about to explain any of that to Gray.

They got to the plane, and he loaded in everything that they’d need for their trip. She wasn’t planning on the plane being so small, but Gray assured her that it was perfectly safe. Wren had to admit that when he got them up in the air, the views were breathtaking, and she was in awe of the Alaskan landscape.

“It sure is beautiful up here,” she whispered.
